Goat Milking Exhibition
By Ana Alverio and Chris Larson, Paramount Schools of Excellence Farms
3:00 means it's time for afternoon chores on the farm, specifically, milking the goats! Ana Alverio, our Livestock Manager, is excited to host folks in the milking parlor to share the dairy process live. You'll learn all sorts of things about goats and the efforts required to keep them, covering specifics about our herd and the culture of care we maintain. Prepare yourself for details about anatomy and almost certainly a rumbling rumen. The space is small, so while Ana takes care of the animals, Chris will assist in rotating people in and out, ensuring a safe milking process while providing as many folks as possible a chance to observe one of the unique urban farming practices occurring within Indianapolis.
Greenhouse Tour
By Taylor Flanagan, Paramount Schools of Excellence Farms
Join PSOE Farm's Garden and Market Manager for a tour of the Frazier Greenhouse, a 30'X50' gothic arch-style greenhouse right here, on campus! He'll share his knowledge and answer your questions about: using it to extend the growing season, preparing starts and seedlings, benefits and challenges, and more. Don't miss your chance to explore this remarkable space with a seasoned gardener and grower!
Beekeeping Basics
By Darien Sharpe and Chris Larson, Paramount Schools of Excellence Farms
Come by this workshop to hear firsthand from Darien Sharpe, an Indiana Junior Beekeeper winner, Paramount STEAM veteran, Paramount Schools graduate, and young beekeeping enthusiast. Supported by PSOE Farm staff, Darien will showcase the basic needs for an urban beekeeping beginner: Equipment for keeping a hive, maintenance needs for urban hives, considerations for the bees, and anything else that buzzes along. You're sure to gain confidence in yourself, better understand this fantastic insect, and how you, too, can be a keeper of bees.
